Closterium aciculare T. West 1860

First described and illustrated by West 1860: 153, pl. 7: 16). Tuffen West was a nineteenth-century British botanist and illustrator. He was the author of ‘Half-Hours with the microscope, … 1858’.
Cell dimensions: L: 350-650 µm; B: 5-8 µm; Ap: 1.5-2.00 µm; L/B: 45-120.
Found in the plankton of lochs and in moorland pools. A common species with a wide pH tolerance; it can be found in great abundance in some habitats.
