Aphanothece stagnina (K.P.J. Sprengel) A. Braun 1863
First described by Sprengel (1807: 14) as Coccochloris stagnina. It was later moved by Braun (1863: no. 1572) to its current position.
Cell dimensions: L: 4-11 µm; B: 3-5.5 µm. Colony: up to 4 cm.
Common attached to submerged aquatics and colonies can attain large proportions. Mainly found in slightly alkaline waters and also brackish.
