Netrium cylindricum (W. & G.S. West) Coesel, P.F.M. & Meesters, K.J. 2023
First described and illustrated by West & West (1903: 40, pl. 446: 10) as Netrium oblongum var. cylindricum. It was recently raised to species level by Coesel & Meesters (2023: 24, pl. 6: 5-6). Main features are parallel, cylindrical, cells with broadly rounded apices.
Cell dimensions: L: 45-75 µm; B: 17-22 µm; L/B: 2.8-4.2.
Infrequently recorded but can be locally abundant. Found in moorland pools, abandoned peat-cutting, and Sphagnum bogs.
