Phylum: Charophyta Family: Desmidiaceae
Cosmarium pyramidatiforme F.A.C. Kouwets 2025
A recently described large taxon in the C. pyramidatum Ralfs 1848 complex. The chloroplast supports several pyrenoids per semicell, typically three, but not always easy to see.
Cell dimensions: L: 65-71 µm; B: 44-47 µm; Is: 15-18 µm; Th: c.30 µm; L/B: 1.46-1.52.
Due to earlier confusion with similar taxa, the distribution is unknown. Cells found to date have come from acidic oligotrophic waters.
