Desmidium pseudostreptonema W. West & G.S. West 1902

The original collection and description came from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) by West & West (1902: 193, pl. 22: 35-37). In their later flora, West, West & Carter (1923: 244) record a site in Ireland. For geographical distribution they give: Finland, Norway, Ceylon & Australia. Clearly a cosmopolitan distribution but rarely recorded.
Cell dimensions: L: 17-21 µm; B: 27-35 µm.
Found in mesotrophic habitats such as moorland pools and loch-margins.
