Netrium digitus (L.A. de Brébisson ex J. Ralfs) H. Itzigsohn & Rothe 1856

First described by Brébisson in Ralfs (1848: 50, pl. 25: 3), and illustrated by Jenner, as Penium digitus. It was later moved to its current genus by Itzigsohn & Rothe (1856: no. 508).
Cell dimensions: L: 167-365 µm; B: 68-88 µm, L/B: 2.5-4.1.
A widespread species of acidic conditions, such as peat bogs, moorland pools and notably associated with Sphagnum, where it is usually abundant.
