Staurastrum cingulum var. obesum G.M. Smith 1922
The first mention of cingulum is by West & West (1903: 548, pl. 18: 6-7) as a variety of Staurastrum paradoxum. Smith raised cingulum to species level and created the variety obesum (Smith 1922: 353) as a stockier cell and less elongate.
Cell dimensions: L: 39-70 µm; B: 50-68 µm; Is: 9-13 µm.
An infrequently recorded acidophile, found in moorland bogs and abandoned peat-cuttings.
