Staurastrum cingulum var. obesum G.M. Smith 1922
It differs from the nominate variety in being stockier and with not so convergent processes. Similar in body shape to S. gracile but that species has parallel processes.
Cell dimensions: L: 36-59 µm; B: 45-68 µm; Is: 8.8-11 µm; L/B: 0.6-1.0.
An infrequently recorded acidophile, found in moorland bogs and abandoned peat-cuttings.
