Closterium dianae var. minus G. Hieronymus 1895
First described by Hieronymus (1895: 19, without illustration, as 'minor'). The only difference between this variety and the nominate variety is the smaller size.
Cell dimensions: L: 120-170 µm; B: 12-16 µm; Ap: 2.0-4.0 µm; Arc: 105-137; L/B: 9-14.
Widespread in acidic bogs and moorland pools but not particularly common.
