Staurastrum cristatum (C. Nägeli) W. Archer 1861

First described and illustrated by Nägeli 1849: 127, pl. 8: C 1) as Phycastrum cristatum. It was later moved to its current genus by Archer (1861: 738).
Cell dimensions: L. 35-50 µm, B. 35-50 µm, Is. 15-16 µm.
Found in vegetated loch-margins and pools but infrequently recorded in the Outer Hebrides.
