Phylum: Charophyta   Family: Desmidiaceae

Cosmarium fictopraemorsum Kurt Förster 1981

One of many similar granulate species. In well-defined cells the central large granule is surrounded by a ring of 6-8 smaller ones, however, this feature is variable and so are the surrounding granules. It needs to be compared with the recently named C. confusopraemorsum Kouwets 2025.
Single cell dimensions: L: 52.8 µm, B: 45.9 µm, Is: 14.8 µm; Th: 30.5 µm, L/B: 1.15.
Regarded as a rare species from mesotrophic, slightly acidic waters. Because of taxonomic confusion, its status is unclear. In the Outer Hebrides, it is rarely recorded.
