Euastrum subalpinum E. Messikommer 1935

Basal part of semicells rectangular with retuse sides, with a narrower upper section that has divergent sides ending in the apical angle, which is papillate. Apical lobes domed with a shallow, open median notch. Sinus deep and closed for the most part. A large, central, protuberances is present plus scattered peripheral granules. Chloroplast axile with a single pyrenoid.
Cell dimensions: L: 17-21 µm; B: 12-15 µm; Is: 4.5-5.5 µm; Th: c.10 µm; L/B: 1.30-1.45.
Found in mesotrophic habitats that are slightly acidic such as moorland pools and abandoned peat-cuttings; also, subatmophytic environments such as wet rocks.
