Closterium lineatum C.G. Ehrenberg ex J. Ralfs 1848
First described by Brébisson in Ralfs (1848: 173, pl. 30: 1) and illustrated by Jenner. This nominate variety is shorter and broader than the variety elongatum but would appear to be much scarer in the Outer Hebrides.
Cell dimensions: L: 330-650 µm; B: 22-35 µm; Ap: 6.5-8 µm; L/B: 15-22.
Found in Sphagnum bogs, lochans and disused peat-cuttings but scarce.
